Like there was one time when I felt like cooking pasta, bought a can of tomatoes and pasta, then later had a surprise dinner invite and so shelved the stuff away. About a year later, I felt like cooking pasta again, took the can of tomatoes and pasta out, then realised that the tomatoes has expired. So I had to keep the pasta again and cooked instant noodles. And then months later the pasta expired because I never get to buy another can of tomatoes...
