White-chan's new version of Human-Body-Sushi

Aiyoh, why still playing with Sushi-on-body idea? That's so yesterday! Now Chinese New Year leh, of course must play with Chinese New Year food mah!

White-chan on CNY - All the blossoming flowers in Botanical Gardens

Do you know that actually one of the best place to go during Chinese New Year is the Botanical Gardens? Why? Firstly, it's free, okay unless you go to the National Orchid Garden then you need to pay $3 lah. But still, $3 to see so many different species of beautiful orchids is also worth it lor! Secondly, let me ask you, when do flowers blossom? Spring right? DUH! And also, because the park is so large and surprisingly so little tourists visiting (thank god!), this is one rare not-crowded place to go now.

Pictures blossom louder than words, so enjoy!

SAF telling New Age soldiers to get all emo

Oh yes, that definitely builds a very tough image of our soldiers.

But then again, they're not the only emo ones... dunno why some women who didn't do NS got so worked up when she saw an army guy sitting in the MRT. Yah, just sitting, not smoking or shitting. Want to know why she thinks soldiers cannot sit in MRT, go ask her on her Facebook. Her name is Stephanie Tng.

White-chan on CNY - Oh what a Sentosa Flowers 2012

Since we've heard so much about the Sentosa Flowers and Enchanted Spring exhibition, and we're really bored during the Chinese New Year, we decided to give it a try. Anyway it only costs SGD1 to go look see mah!

White-chan on Sentosa Boardwalk

White-chan at Sentosa

Once we stepped on Sentosa looking at the big "Sentosa" sign board, our first thoughts were "now what?". Really. Because we couldn't find any sign or banner about the flowers thingy, and we didn't really see any excitement around us. So we went to the Visitor Centre to check, and found that we were not the only lost ones! Wah a bit of screw up leh considering the amount of money they've spent on marketing! It's like putting up "Sales!" promo on TV and newspapers but forgot to tell people which shopping center got sales!

White-chan at Sentosa Flowers 2012

The flower displays are actually at the Imbian Station, all the way up to the Images of Singapore museum. But the weird thing is we always find the "Out" signs first then realised "In" from somewhere else.

Anyway, the whole place is filled with flowers, and most of them are conveniently "portable", like you can already imagine the Sentosa people removing these pots efficiently within one morning at the end of the exhibition.

There're a couple of flower hearts, flower doors, flower dragon, flower whatever and even a flower Nemo, maybe it's just White-chan, but he definitely prefers those "real" blossoming flowers at the Botanical Gardens...

People's Park is now renamed... People's Park Plaza!

People's Park will be renamed to People's Park Plaza so that people will know that People's Park is not People's Park Complex which is next to People's Park, or that People's Park is also not People's Park Centre which is the other People's Park. The new name People's Park Plaza will make it easy for people to tell one People's Park from another People's Park so that people don't go to the wrong People's Park.

White-chan on CNY - When museums got free admission!

When during Chinese New Year, everything is expensive and everywhere is crowded. Yes, by right everyone should be busy visiting, but sometimes we need a break from those yearly "Got boyfriend/girlfriend already?", "When are you getting married?", "When are you going to have a baby?", "When are you going to have a fifth child?" questions from overly concerned or noisy or simply-noting-else-to-do relatives.

Go to movies? Good idea, but everyone else is doing the same thing and anyway this is the time when bad movies could sell. Go shopping? Hello? The shops still closed lah! Unless you want to go Mustafa. So the next best thing to do is to go visit museums! You can take the opportunity to get smarter, and more importantly it's FREE!

And so White-chan went to the "Dreams and Reality: Masterpieces of Painting, Drawing and Photography from the Musée d’Orsay, Paris" exhibit at the National Museum of Singapore.

There isn't much paintings in the exhibition hall, but come on, these paintings so expensive, you don't expect that Musée d’Orsay to lend us too many right? Scali some run-around kids run into them, or some aunties go touch them and leave finger prints then how?

One of the famous paintings you expect to see is the "Woman with a Parasol Looking to the Right" by Claude Monet. He was the founder of French impressionist painting and White-chan really likes the colors he use.

And the other famous painting in the hall with the largest crowd in front of it, is the "Starry Night Over the Rhone" by Vincent Van Gogh. No, it's not called "Starry Starry Night" that some fathers/mothers were telling their kids in the hall. Van Gogh was a post-Impressionist painter but also damn suay, because he only managed to sell like one painting when he was still alive. Then now after he died, so many people want to see his works. Sianz right?

Anyway this is the other "The Starry Night" that White-chan actually prefers. Reminds him of curly fries...

White-chan on CNY - Go get some lucky flowers!

Besides spring cleaning and queuing up for bak kwa, one of the MUST-DO for Chinese New Year is to get some lucky flowers. From a big tree of Mei Hua to a small pot of cactus, the Chinese will get plant just to make sure that their homes are auspiciously in Spring. Even thought there is only the rainy season and hot season in Singapore, we like to pretend we're in Winter during the X'mas and Spring during the Chinese New Year.
